Our Charity for 2013

10% of all sales goes to this wonderful charity who work to increase welfare standards for farm animals.

“Compassion are absolutely thrilled to be Rebecca’s charity of the year. Compassion in World Farming was founded over 40 years ago in 1967 by a British farmer who became horrified by the development of modern, intensive factory farming. Today we campaign peacefully to end all cruel factory farming practices. We believe that the biggest cause of cruelty on the planet deserves a focused, specialised approach – so we only work on farm animal welfare”.

Compassion in World Farming

It gives me great pleasure to announce the winner of our charity competition: Compassion in World Farming!  The charity, that does amazing work to increase welfare standards for farm animals, will receive 10% of the sales proceeds from Rebecca O'Dwyer Art for 2013.  Compassion in World Farming won by over a hundred votes, showing how committed their followers are to the cause.

‘I would like to vote for Compassion in World Farming. The least we can do if we use animals for food is to give them the best care and life possible.’  Morag stewart

Compassion in World Farming was nominated by our friend Gina Groom saying ’this charity is right up your street’.  Gina knows that, like her, we are passionate about high welfare standards in farming systems.

I was born and raised on a livestock farm in the Vale of Glamorgan and now farm with my husband, John.  Our animals are reared in an organic, free-range system and treated with the care and respect they deserve.  We believe meat should be sourced from humane producers and eaten consciously, valuing the animals’ life.  In our family we eat meat rarely and with gratitude.

We love our animals as we love our family and friends.  They are one of the main inspirations for my artwork and I celebrate their beauty and spirit through my paintings.  The cattle in the Blue Skies Collection are my Father’s Aberdeen-Angus cross suckler cow, Mabel, and Meirion with his Mother, Beauty, two favourites from our herd of Pedigree Welsh Black cattle.

My intention through this new collaboration with Compassion in World Farming is to help spread the message that farm animals are sentient beings with feelings and personalities.

‘I would like to nominate Compassion in World Farming for your sponsorship. They do amazing work to help animals around the world. They raise awareness about the meat and dairy people eat so that we as individuals can make an informed choice about what we do or do not buy.’  Jade Wilson

Jade sums it up in a nutshell – consumer power.  We can change the world with the choices we make, so putting ethically-produced meat and dairy in your shopping basket this week ensures more farm animals are kept in humane systems.

Not only are factory farms unethical, they are also unsustainable, so supporting high-welfare systems protects our planet and helps us feed the ever-increasing global population in a sustainable way.

I'd like to vote for Compassion in World Farming. They do incredible work which helps not only the animals but also people all over the world in the hopes of creating a more sustainable future for us all.’   Kay Bushnell

Don’t forget, you are what you eat, so make sure you eat happy, healthy animals!
